Why do i have shooting pains down the side of my forearm while doing bicep curls?

It's down the side of my forearm when i drop one of the biceps i have shooting pains down it, it's also just down the side of my right forearm. Could it be the muscle isn't strong enough for the weight?|||you are straining the muscle....x

What are the most affordable and reliable pistols for practical shooting?

I've been a big fan of pistol shooting since I was a kid, now that my friends are in to it too, im thinking of buying my own practical shooting pistol =) but I want to purchase a very reliable one in accuracy, easy to maintain - durable, customizable for balanced weight and the usual. My friends got a Beretta-m92f and another is the Glock17 which one should I purchase too and can you suggest any other pistol great for practical shooting?|||First thing now this is my view Sense some may disagrees. I'm from alabama and it may sound weird to you but I believe the gun picks you (so to speak). Go to your local dealer, flea market, swap meet etc. Do not intend on buying one you just want to hold them. Feel the weight difference, safety features, clip discharge see where im going with this. Shop around and find the one you want, the one that fits you. My first pistol was my grandfathers 22 revolver. Then I brought a HI-POINT 9mm. Its ok shoots very well. But it just wasn't me. It has no hammer, no decocker and the safety is under par. Then I found her a Rugar P-89 which is also a 9mm. She has everything i wanted including the decocker. Beautiful polished steel just a great gun. Great shooting just great. The HI-POINT sold for new @ $140.00 and the RUGAR sold new @ $350.00 but know this you get what you pay for.|||Sig Saur P226 is the best bet for what you are looking for. GREAT pistol, reliable, and somewhat affordable. All the government agencies use them for that reason. It has great balance and the somewhat heavier weight on the slide reduces recoil.

Once you start to become experienced and look into spending a little bit more, look into Kimber.

Good luck|||Going into practical shooting isn't cheap. If you are really into it, the best bet would be going into a gun store and check what you want and not what the gun dealer could offer. In short, feel the gun yourself and test fire it (if possible). Reliable pistols has it's worth and it is not cheap.|||SigSauer PP229

How does an AC 130 looks when shooting from the sky?

I like things like this and I seen how it looks when shooting down but how does it look if you on the ground looking up at it shooting down|||It's beautiful, when it's supporting you.|||I am becoming an AC 130 pilot so I am glad I saw this question. There are a few main guns. There's a large cannon, a smaller canon, and a high caliber machine gun. I forgot their exact mm size. For the canons, you will see a bright light coming from the canon along with an eerie sound. It will only be a matter of seconds before it hits the ground. For the high caliber gun, you may see some tracers, but not too much.|||You will see small flashes from the 105mm and 40mm. There may be tracers from the miniguns, it depends on the load.

Gunships are usually night fliers and are fairly high, so there isn't much to see.|||I'm pretty sure no one can answer your question because the Taliban that could answer this question don't have the time to make a yahoo answers account because they are too busy being dead.|||A few glimpses here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpyFMEKQy鈥?/a>|||It looks like the Devil with wings is what it looks like.|||Go to:

How much money does it take to get started on a shooting hobby?

I'm getting close to the right age in my state, and thinking of buying a firearm. I have hunted before, but I'm not that good of a shot, so I'd mostly just keep it for range shooting and stuff. How much money does it take to buy a shotgun/rifle and what cost yearly? Any estimate would work nicely.|||You can pick up a .22 rifle for under $250.

500 rounds of .22LR for about $20

Hearing protection runs $12 or so at Walmart

And my gun club is $22 a year.

If you want more guns or shoot more than 500 rounds a year it's going to cost more|||Generally it's best to start out with an old reliable that has stood the test of time as nearly everyones first gun. A good .22 rifle, or more specifically a bolt action .22 rifle.

You can still buy one new from many different manufacturers for $150 to $200. You can also find many used bolt action .22 rifles for $100

The benefits from starting with one of these is that they are very easy to shoot, have no recoil, are very quiet compared to all other guns and the ammo is very cheap at $1.60 for 50 rounds.

If you don't feel comfortable with the open sights you can buy a good 3-9X40 scope for an additional $35-$40.

No matter the case have someone with more experience teach you how to handle the firearm safely then how to shoot it properly.

Gun ranges are typically expensive so unless your going to be very serious about shooting your gun it might be best to head for the outdoors with a mentor and find a safe place to shoot where it's legal to do so.

Once you feel comfortable with a .22 you can move up at your own pace (or budget) into more and better firearms for your collection.|||it depends, new or used and what caliber/gauge

a new break action shotgun can be as cheap as $100

a used break action shotgun can be cheaper than $100(i saw a used 12 gauge for $75 and considered getting it)

a used pump action shotgun can be as cheap as $160 or less

a new single shot .22 can be as cheap as $100

a new semi auto .22 can be as cheap as $150

a military surplus mosin nagant can be $80 or cheaper at a gun show

a military surplus sks can be had for $350

a .308 or .223 bolt action can be had for around $300

12 gauge ammo is around $.25 cents for skeet shot

.22 ammo is around $.03 a shot

7.62x39mm for an sks or ak 47 is around $.25 a round

.223 is around $.25 a round

.308 can be had for around $.35 a round

military surplus ammo for the mosin nagant can be had for $.21 cents a round, but you have to clean the gun after shooting because the ammo is corrosive and will start corroding the barrel after about day i think

EDIT:

if your gonna get a shotgun and can handle a 12 gauge, get one as they have the cheapest ammo|||I saved for 12 years by the time I turned 18 so I could buy a gun. Had $3700 saved up. Even that I spent carefully, My first rifle, magazines, targets, ammunition was around $350.

A Marlin 925r .22lr bolt action rifle ($149.95 at Big 5 Sporting Goods)

A case of Walmart .22lr ammo (5,500 rounds for $103) the first of 4 cases and 10 year's supply of .22lr ammo

A half dozen spare 10 rd magazines ($50)

$25 for DROS and $5 for dealer's fee.

A bunch of cheap paper targets, pack of 100, 50 yard small bore rifle type ($5)

since then somethings have increase in price- ammo for example I believe walmart still has no .22lr in stock. Instead of 9.97 per brick, you'll be spending $22.50 per 500 rds.

My Marlin 925r rifle is still being sold at Big 5, but at the lowest its around $179.99.

So the basics- $180 for a rifle, $25 for ammo, $5 for targets, $11 for cleaning kit, $30 for DROS/fee, its $250 or so to get into shooting.

Less if you have previous experience and able to buy a used .22lr in good condition via PPT sales. Then you can get it for under $200.|||What kind of range?

You shoot 'clays' with a shot-gun, Paper targets with a rifle.

If you're just starting out, start with the .22 rifle and paper targets.

You'll need 'lotsa' practice and the ammo is the cheapest you can get for it.

( About 5 cents a shot for .22 vs 50 %26amp; up for that shot-gun.)

You'll spend about $200-300 for a good servicable

.22 rifle,

$25-30 on eye and ear protection and some targets,

and that's all you really need to get a start.|||Well son, your question is pretty vague. A rifle can range from $100 to many thousands. The same is true with a shotgun.

Ammo pricing is also subjective. You can buy 500 .22lr cartridges for $10 or pay around $80 for one .700 Nitro.

I'd recommend getting a nice bolt action .22LR or a Ruger 10-22 rifle to start out with. They are cheap to buy and to feed. You will be able to practice you shooting skills with out breaking the bank.|||How much? Here's a rough breakdown:

Rifle/shotgun - Medium Cost Ranges $350-$600

Scope - $100-$550

Ammo - depends on how much shooting at $12/20 rounds or 500 rounds of .22 - $35 per box

Cleaning Kit - $40

Range fee - best to join as a member $15 per session or $90-$140 per year membership

Targets - $5-$15 per package (depends on what). You can always just shoot paper plates

Eye and Ear protection - $15-$100

So, for the first year $715 - $1790 going 10 times to the range.

Second year and so forth $270 - $500 (excludes cost of firearm).|||If your just going to be target shooting get a shotgun so you can shoot skeet. You could get a remington 870 mossberg 500 or a cheap stoeger double for about $300 im not sure how the quality is on the stoegers though.|||Man, if you want to know how much it costs to get started ill tell you, about 200-600 for a nice gun, rifle. 150 yearly for rounds and whatever your range fee is.|||i would say between 300-1000 depending on what want you want. You could buy a .22 cal for next to nothing but when you start to get bigger you spend more money.|||Your looking at $700-$1000 to get started, get enough ammo, cleaning supplies, the gun and classes if you wish to take them.|||A Marlin Model 60 will set you back less than $200.

Is there a good shooting army game like black ops?

I'm looking for a fun shooting game for my son who is 13 years old, like black ops, but I think black ops is too violent.

Can you give me a suggestion of a game like that without too many violent scenes?|||no offense to your son but are you sure he is mature enough to play COD? I mean when I play there is a bunch of kids like your son who think cause it is the wee morning hours they can curse people out. And they don't have a mature attitude towards fellow players. The mic setup I have allows my family to hear my teammates and when one of them starts cursing my kids hear this and think it is alright to curse in this manner. I'm just asking that if he does curse people try to monitor him. On a different note, if your son is mature enough I would suggest games like Battlefield, Resistance, Gears Of War, Bulletstorm, Red Dead Redemption, Killzone, Halo, and Crysis 2. Hope this helps.|||Shooting games ALL have violent scenes. specially blood. But i can think of a few: Battlefield Bad Company Vietnam, Crysis, Halo, Operation Flashpoint and the new Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3. The Single Players are really bloody so dont let him play in singleplayer mode. The fun thing is the multiplayer mode online.

Theres also Battlefield 2. No blood or profanity at all it is a great game but it came out in 2005 i think and i dont think he'll like that. How can I get more backspin when I'm shooting a basketball?

I need to get more backspin when I'm shooting a basketball in a game situation. I know the fundamentals and have practiced basic shooting technique, but I still have trouble getting good spin in a catch-and-shoot situation, or pulling up a shot off the dribble. I also struggle getting good spin on free-throws because of sticky hands covered in sweat. Can anybody help me with this?|||hmm, maybe use some kind of baby powder if your really desperate about the sweating hands, but for the spin, just try practicing at home. Every once in a while, I'll lift a finger to point (or whatever I happen to do with my finger) and I'll suddenly get a sharp shooting pain running down my finger. And then, I can't straighten my finger or it'll happen again. This happens completely at random, and it's not always the same finger. Sometimes, It'll be months before it happens again, while other times it's only days. And as random as the start, it randomly ends. Sometimes it'll take minutes to go away, other times days. What do you meter off of when shooting pictures?

I know it varies drastically depending on what lighting situations you are in. I am doing a film project and I plan on shooting my sister in the water (not IN but above water). I will probably be shooting on a fairly sunny day. My question is, what do I meter off of? My teacher said to meter in the same shadow as your subject, but I also heard that you can meter off someone's nose. How do you do that?|||If you want the shadow to be black you DECREASE exposure by two stops, i.e. close the aperture or increase the shutter speed. If you increase the exposure the shadow will become grey. This is metering for the deepest significant shadow, part of the zone system.

Set your meter to spot metering - it is the most accurate. If you have a hand held incident meter, which is what is used in motion picture shooting, use the incident dome. Read the manual if you are unsure how to operate the meter.

Meter off of the skin and set that to zone 6 or 7 (assuming she has a light skin tone.) To do this you open up one to two stops from the metered value. Here you are metering for the midtones.

The absolute correct exposure is rendered by doing an incident reading off of a grey card. The grey card is 18% grey which is what the meter is balanced for. When you read a meter what it is telling you is how to render that area at 18% grey. If you don't want that area to fall right in the middle of the tonal range, you must compensate by decreasing (stop down, metered on shadows) or increasing (open up, metered on midtones or highlights.)

As you are doing a film project, I would recommend you test before you do your actual shoot. Meter carefully, write everything down and bracket your exposures (this works for movie film too). Take it to the lab and analyze the results. Sometimes what seems like it should be correct does not look as good as the bracket shot.|||SLRs (and DSLRs) have different metering modes. Your owner's manual will tell you what options you have with your particular camera. You will probably see terms like Evaluative, Center-Weighted and perhaps Spot Metering. Each does something different with the existing light, and each may come up with a different exposure.

If you wanted to meter a person's nose, and your camera had spot metering, you would just put the center focus point on the person's nose and read the settings (if you have it set for aperture priority, you would read the shutter speed. If shutter priority, read the aperture. If shooting in Manual, adjust either your shutter or aperture to get the exposure you want.

An alternate way of doing this is to stand close to the person and zoom in so their face fills the viewfinder and check the readings. This should get you close to a spot meter.

Hopefully your instructor has also talked about bracketing. Even with film (and maybe especially with film, as you might not see your results for several days) you should take the same shot with a couple of different exposures. Usually +1 and -1 exposures gets you in the ball park. The bad news (especially with film!) is that you'll want to use at most 1 of the three shots you took - the best exposed one.|||Another thing you can do that will probably work - if you can't get a good tight reading on the subject - is to meter off the open sky. Use the spotmeter for this. Set it so that the sky would be one stop overexposed and your Earth-bound subject will probably be okay.

In other words, point the camera meter at the sky and set it so that the indicator matches up with the point that is marked +1.0. Alternately, if you match up at zero with the sky and it says that the sky would be "perfect" using 1/125 at f/8, set the camera to shoot at 1/125 at f/5.6 or 1/60 at f/8.|||When shooting negative film the saying was, expose for your shadows and process for your highlights.

However, when shooting slide film and digital, I believe it is important to expose for your most important highlight, (i.e. the one that you don't want blown out.)

What you choose to actually meter off of is irrelevant unless you know how to interpret that meter reading appropriately. For instance, if you are metering off of a shadow, do you want that shadow to be pure black? Then you need to increase exposure by 2-stops.

You need to go to a sports dr if possible. They deal with this all the time.

What are your thoughts on putting a horse to sleep by shooting?

Shooting or euthanasia? Which is best for the horse in your opinion?|||It's tough because I like the idea of a horse falling to sleep and then dying, but that's not always how it works, whereas a bullet to the brain is instant. I personally wouldn't be able to shoot my horse myself if it came to that, but I would rather someone shoot him in the head then risk him having an adverse reaction to the drugs and suffer before he goes. A few months ago my friends took their old laminitic mare out and shot her. They said right before they did, she had a very relieved "thank you" kind of look on her face like she knew what was coming.|||Putting animals down with a pistol or rifle is much more rapid than euthanizing with drugs- but it must be DONE CORRECTLY. That's the whole crux of the problem- most people who say that they could do it have no idea how to. They don't know, for example, that the stories one sees on TV where the sheriff's deputy or the cop shoots a horse that has broken a leg from a distance are just THAT- they are STORIES, and nothing more. In reality, a horse or any animal which is being destroyed that way needs to have someone who is brave enough to put the barrel of the gun directly against the animal's head and fire the bullet into the correct spot from there. To locate the proper spot, one needs to draw an imaginary line from the base of each ear to the corner of the opposite eye. The place where the two lines intersect or cross is where the bullet goes- and in most cases, it's right in the middle of the forehead. But the Hollywood movies never show this, nor do they ever make people aware of the fact that NO animal should be destroyed from any distance away. Stress and the emotions of the situation make it all but impossible for most lay people to aim a pistol or rifle correctly in such circumstances, and there's always a chance that the bullet will not hit its intended target. Then the person is left with a gravely wounded animal which is in agony but is unable to move. Still another thing that the movies and TV never show is what happens to a horse or cow that has been destroyed by shooting. They don't just flop over and never move again- it's not uncommon for the animal to thrash around and move its limbs, even though it is dead. Sometimes they moan or groan, or they shriek when the bullet hits them. This is extremely upsetting and scary for anybody who happens to be watching, and it is NOT for the faint of heart or those with weak stomachs. For all these reasons, it is better to have an animal put to sleep by lethal injection when at all possible. The only exception to this is in cases where the horse or cow is going to be used for consumption or food purposes. Euthanasia solution is very POISONOUS, and animals destroyed that way can NEVER be used for food, either for people or other animals.

In euthanasia, the vet will inject the horse with a sedative first. After the horse lies down and is asleep, the vet will then inject euthanasia solution, which is usually made up of two different drugs: a barbituate ( sleeping drug) to shut down the central nervous system, and a paralytic anesthetic to stop the heart and breathing and kill the animal. In states which use lethal injection to kill convicted criminals, the process is essentially the same, as are the drugs used. The only difference there is the dosage and route of administration. In EMERGENCY situations when euthanasia must be given rapidly ( such as after catastrophic accidents at the racetrack, for example) the first step in the process is skipped, and euthanasia solution will be injected directly into the carotid artery of the horse's neck by the vet, usually in a much larger dose. That's what happened at Churchill Downs after Eight Belles broke down following the Derby in 2008. She was euthanized where she fell, and the horse ambulance picked up her remains after the vet confirmed that she was dead. The same thing happened at Belmont Park in 1989 when Go For Wand broke down so horrifically during the Breeder's Cup Distaff. The mare stumbled and flipped over in the homestretch, nearly amputating her right front foot- but incredibly, she managed to get up afterwards. Driven mad by pain, she bolted around the track on three legs for the next thirty minutes until the outriders finally caught up with her and forced her down. Even then, it was a struggle to keep her there. Within minutes, however, the track vet showed up with a bottle of euthanasia solution, which he injected into the mare's throat. If the vet had been unavailable, then one of the guards would have been called on to put the mare down. I've seen pictures and videos of Go For Wand's accident, and they are as horrific as watching the real thing would have been. I think that in situations like this, euthanasia is definitely better. It's also cleaner and less traumatic to watch than destruction with a gun would be.|||Have you ever watched a horse be put to sleep? It's horrific, not like I have a better alternative, though. There used to be an old euthanasia solution you could get that made the horse lay/fall down and then die. They stopped making that, and the new stuff, for some reason, freaks the horse out and a lot of them rear up and backwards and if they're lucky, they die before they slam the ground, but a good deal of them don't. It's also dangerous for the people involved. I was almost struck in the head by a horse trying to die. It also takes a lot longer to work for some reason, and they flail lot while it kicks in.

I don't think I could deal with the mess by shooting, though. Either way, it's pretty grim to think about|||It's situational to me. If your out in the bush and your horse falls and breaks a leg, having a pistol and a good shot will put a horse out of it's misery quite quickly. It's also a humane option if the vet cannot make it out right away and the horse is in an immeasurable amount of pain.

The idea of lethal injection is romantic in a sense. The horse just goes to sleep and doesn't wake up. The fact of the matter is, if the vet doesn't give a sedative to put the horse to sleep first and merely injects the barbiturates required to stop the heart, I would think that a massive heart attack would be quite painful.

So yeah, I guess I would prefer the ultimate of putting the animal to sleep first but if a well placed bullet is necessary, then so be it. The horse wouldn't even know what was going on.|||I think shooting is quicker as different horses can react to the drugs used by putting down by injection and things can take time with them and it is not always easy to gague how much of the drugs that a horse will need to work. Shooting is instantaneous and the horse knows nothing! They say the with drugs the horse knows nothing too, but then there is the problem of disposal of the remains. When a horse has had a drug induced death he cannot be buried or used for hunt hounds and has to be incinerated and this is expensive and traumatic. A horse that has been shot can be buried on home ground following the local authority guidelines.|||Either one I suppose is fine so long as the horse is killed quickly and as painlessly as possible. However from a human standpoint I could never, ever shoot a horse or be nearby when a horse is getting shot unless it was a very dire emergency and the horse needed to be put down immediately and we could not wait for a vet. It's just the emotional attachment thing.

I know biologically speaking if you aim a pistol at the right part of the forehead the bullet will travel through the brain and spinal column and kill the horse painlessly and instantly. But it's just the idea of shooting a horse that gives me shivers.|||Personally, and I have been present when a lot of horses were sent over the bridge, I would much prefer shooting with a humane killer. Far faster than with a needle which can actually take several minutes for them to actually die. I would also prefer my dogs shot with a humane killer too.

There is a certain amount of blood but a polythene sack over their heads contains it all.

Once they have been shot their flesh can be used for feeding hounds - or, if at an abattoir, humans, with a needle the body has to be disposed of by other means.

*************************** ADD ON FOT STARLIGHT ***************************************

Shoot a horse in the centre of its forehead and you will kill it but shoot it two or three inches above that and it will drop twice as fast. Also using a humane killer rather than a pistol or rifle is far better as the bullet used will shatter and spread. I agree that a lot of horses will thrash around, especially TBs it is just the nerves. In holding well over a hundred horses I have never heard one scream when shot with a humane killer.|||Whether it's done using drugs or a gun, it's still euthanasia (if the horse is being put down for humane reasons). Having seen some horses go into terrible seizures with the drugs, I'd say that the most humane, quickest way to put a horse down is using a gun. Not a nice thought, either way. Better than having them suffer in interminable pain, though.|||I have had 4 horses put down this year. Most were +35 years. It was time. I prefer having the vet do it. First he gives a sedative. They get sleepy and relaxed and lie down. You have a chance to say your good byes, stroke their heads, it's all very relaxed. The second shot stops their heart. It's very quick, painless and very peaceful and natural. Sort of like dying in their sleep.

Horse heads are very hard bone. What if the shot misses? Imagine the suffering. I'll stick with the vet.

foxhunter - just how do you get that sack over their heads? I'd think they would resist.|||I live on a farm and all my life, all our animals that needed to be put down were shot, except one who we found out she had stage 4 (maybe 5) cancer when we took her to the vet and had her put down via injection because she was in so much pain and she had stopped eating and layed around all the time. We shot a friends horse because it was blind in one eye and almost completely blind in the other eye and they couldn't take care of it due to improper facilities and he was mega old, I still wish we could have kept him and just out to pasture, in a good pasture. But I would never be able to do the shooting, my dad does it...|||I believe in shooting,. To me it is easier because you don't have to spend all that money on gettin then euthanased and then trailor home and so forth. not to mention that they actually feel the effects of the shots and things. if you shoot them in the middle of the forehead they won't feel the shot and they are dead immediatly.. Thats just my opinion though, if it bothers people them im sorry.. Im just an ol; country girl that has to deal with cattle and horses dying and thats the easiest way. and its cheaper..|||I would never have any of my animals put down by the injection method. I have seen way too many horses fight it and trust me it is nothing you want to witness. Once a vet was putting down a EPM case. He thrashed in his stall screaming for four hours. I still have nightmares. The was getting ready to give him a forth shot when i went to my truck AND GOT MY PISTOL. If you know how to shoot one they are down and gone before you even hear the bang. It is more humane than the injection and if you ever see one fight it you will agree also.|||euthanasia for sure! putting a horse to sleep is a hard thing to do and you should do it peacefully. shooting the horse will make it worse to handle the emotions, you will see the horse drop as euthanasia will allow the horse to calmly drift away.|||Euthinesia! Think about it this way if you shoot the horse and you don't kill him on the first shot That is some crazy amount of pain. If you absoloutly have to kill the horse do it as peacefully as possible Don't make the horse suffer.|||DEAD isn't "sleep",kid.

Euthanasia is KILLING to stop suffering-NOT the method thereof.

A well placed shot,of sufficient caliber, is INSTANT.|||I personally, would never want to shoot a horse, i would want it to go peacfully not its last sights being someone aiming at it with a gun.

But that is my personal opinion :)|||It depends if there is somebody around who is good with a gun. Where can I find graphics of shooting stars with a fading color?

Okay: so my mom was in a car accident, she had a shooting star graphic on her car and unfortunatly they called the car a total loss, more then anything she is upset that the 2006 honda is a loss along with her $1200 graphics that were down the side. Is it important to relax and not tense up when shooting a handgun?

I just went to the range last week and I found out I was shooting great when I wasn't tensing up and anticipating the shot. Does this sound about right? Can you give me some pointers for my next range trip?|||You should buy some "snap-caps" so you can dry fire your hand gun at home. Practice breath control and making every snap a surprise to yourself when you get that down go back to the range. While doing active leo I practiced 100 draws and fires in the mirror a day. Every day, and after several weeks it was amazing how accurately I was scoring on the range. After several years of practice I got a possible.|||Tensing is typically because you are anticipating recoil.

The best shooters in the world are very relaxed when they shoot. Best example: Biathlon. They ski a couple of kilometers, pull up to the shooting station, and shoot a group of targets.

You should have your weight leaning forward, arms somewhat relaxed, but driving your weight into the pistol. When you squeeze the trigger, it should be a smooth pull. When it breaks, it should be a surprise.|||its important to always be relaxed when doing any activity that involves shooting. The most important factor in shooting is trigger control. A nervous person will have more unwanted movement in his or her trigger finger which will result in a higher chance of losing the target picture, and directly affecting shot placement.|||Being tense always hurts performance, whether you are shooting, running, boxing, playing cards or having sex.|||just dont relax too much becuse if your holdin in a poop it will drop right out if you relax too much

What do different colored shooting glasses do?

brown, orange, violet, red, and most particularly, yellow.

I can understand dark shooting glasses helping on bright days, but what's the point of color shooting glasses? Personally, I prefer to have as little manipulation of my healthy vision as possible. Colored shooting glasses are more common than clear...

The fact that so most shooting glasses seem to be yellow gives me the impression that there's some sort of purpose to them... What is it?|||The biggest reason is yellow makes everything look brighter which if you've ever been trap shooting on a really cloudy day you'll know how much they help. Dark i would never use nor does anyone else on my trap team we all use yellow or clear and usually the guys using clear want to borrow our yellow ones. It's mostly a matter of personal preference but i would recommend yellow because it helps you keep your eye on the target.|||Amber or yellow shooting glasses takes the blue out of the scenery making everything a lot brighter.

I use them myself and when it is getting dark, you still have a bright background to see clearly. It even gets a little scary when you take the glasses off and it is dark out.

It brings the image of a deer out more clearly from the background (grasses and trees).|||each color made helps you see different things- like yellow- when i was on the trap team, a LOT of people used yellow glasses, it helps bring out the orange in the skeet

As far as colored lenses are concerned, I would say yellow and orange/amber are the most common. Yellow typically enhances color and brightness, whereas the orange/amber color is to cut down on glare.|||The different colors are basically for different lighting conditions

How long do actors have to rehearse before they start shooting for a film?

I have to pretend to be a film director for this school project so i was wondering if 4 months of rehearsing is the average amount of time before they start shooting the scenes...?|||It depends on the director. Some scenes are improvised, some the director gives the script to the actors a few nights before. Usually, Actors are given the screen play, they read it over, and focus on the scenes they're about to do.|||4 months is about right depending on the complexity of the work. How old do you have to be in order to go to a shooting range?

What is the legal age (in Florida) for a child to be allowed to go to a shooting range? My father wants to take me to a shooting range to teach me how to fire a gun properly. But I don't know how old you have to be in order to be allowed to enter one. If I'm being supervised by an adult, would it be ok if I'm a minor?|||I take my daughter to an outdoor one and she is five just wear hearing protection and eye protection|||Minimum age is up to the operator... I have never been to a formal range (business) that would allow an unaccompanied minor to shoot. Your dad will probably sign a waiver for you (and himself) that would hold the operator harmless if you got hurt.

I have seen kids 12 years old shooting under supervision at paid ranges.

Call and ask the range.. they can tell you for sure what their policy is.|||Unaccompanied person must be 18 years or older. An accompanied person must be with their guardian. I tried to take my Secretary's son to the range when he was 15 and since I was not his Dad we found out he was not permitted to shoot. This dead beat dad denied his son the fun of shooting because of his absence.|||I used to go to the shooting range when I was 8 years old. Always supervised though. You'll be ok. Hopefully the shooting range isn't kommonist. Ive been to a few really bad ranges in central Florida that almost seem to be anti gun.|||Old enough to be out of diapers. How long did it take you to get your shooting form?

I'm changing mine again, because other players told me that the way I'm shooting is the reason why I can't get deep range shots. What does strengthening your pelvic muscles have to do with shooting further when a guy cums?

I don't see the logic or any scientific proof? Even guys in homemade sex tapes are shooting pretty far so it can't be fake, can it? I believe it is hereditary. Am i correct?|||Well I have been doing PC (Pubic Coxagial) muscle excercises for a few years now. They have made my orgasms a lot more intense and I can control my ejaculation much more. Eventuall I will train my body to hold in my ejaculation so I can have mulitple male orgasms. However I haven't been able to shoot any farther than before I started doing them.

They might work for some men. If you can isolate that one particular muscle and work it then it will flex harder durring orgasm and it will cause you to shoot farther.

I think it's a bit of both.

I don't understand why you don't see the logic. I mean it's pretty cut and dry. You work the muscles your ejaculate with and make them stronger so you can shoot farther. I don't understand what about that you don't get.

So I would say it's a bit of both.

How do you run with a sentry gun while its shooting in Black Ops ?

I see other people running with a sentry gun and its shooting. I believe what you are thinking of is the 'Death Machine'. This is a mini gun which is a randomly gained from a care package. The chances of getting one in a care package is 2%. With Hardline Pro the chance of getting one is 3% plus you can 'gamble' if you wish and see if you get a different killstreak or ammo from your care package by double tapping square. This greatly increases the odds of getting one. There are also rumours circulating that Treyarch in their next patch will make it an obtainable killstreak. This is highly unlikely however.

Sentence for shooting a police officer is higher than shooting a normal person?

I found out that by law, the sentence for shooting a police officer is much more severe than shooting a normal person. Do you think attempted murder on a police officer should be punished more severely than on normal person?|||Ethically, to attempt murder on a police officer is generally considered more severe, because of the motives that come with it.

From the government's perspective, these increased sentences and punishments are in the people's best interest. They serve as a deterrent to criminals. LEOs are a symbol of the government and maintain order. Its in the government's (and the people's) best interest, to preserve that order.

Its worth noting that almost everywhere, these "special" laws regarding LEOs are only in effect when the Officer is either in uniform, is operating in the line of duty, or has identified themselves as an Officer.

So basically, if you kill a stranger in a bar fight, and he/she turns out to be a Cop, you dont automatically get a higher sentence.|||Yes, they are here to protect "Your Life" and to serve our community and persevere our civil rights by keeping order . Question, everyone in the community has "civil rights" but would you die for that stranger rights knowing your family will be without you, well they do it everyday. So.. Again the answer is yes.|||In my opinion, Punishment should be equal. Attempt to murder on police officer will be in extreme situations only when the individual will be unnecessarily harassed by police beyond beyond the scope of Law of Land|||Yes.

What's the difference between a presentation script and shooting script?

Ok, so while reading screenwriting for dummies it mentions that presentation scripts are the ones people normally show to studio executives and shooting scripts are typically written during production and it's dome by the director of the film.

As far as formatting goes what's the difference between the two?|||In the shooting script, there are scene numbers on both sides of the page at every scene slugline. Shooting scripts are also locked, so as the script is revised (usually on a daily basis) you'll get into page numbers like 15A as new scenes are added. By the end of shooting, the script looks like a rainbow with all the revision pages.

Can anybody offer some tips on shooting models outside in the woods?

I'm doing a photoshoot tommorow with two girls, and I'm completely new to photographing models. I did many self portraits before but never actually shot models. I'm doing this shoot outdoors at a local state forest. What tips can anyone offer when shooting models outdoors? Thanks!|||I like to use a bit of fill flash in the shade. Take an ambient light reading, and then close down the aperture about 1/2 a stop. Using TTL flash, this will make the models 1/2 stop brighter than the background, and gives the photo some more depth.

You HAVE to have an off camera sync cord and a diffuser, or the shots won't look good. On camera flash is never pretty.

Here's a shot of a tree, same concept, used 3 flashes with Nikon CLS to make it stand out from background:

http://cgipix.com/Trees_1_Landscape_Phot鈥?/a>

On the insect side, bring some Off and make sure to have everyone use it.|||Watch out for bugs, poison ivy, and animals. Hungry insects might find your models a tasty target as well. All of this is even more important if your models will be scantily clad or nude. Watch where you have them sit, stand, or what you have them lean against. A horde of angry wasps might destroy their composure, as might a charging bear.

Make sure you don't get lost.

If it's not very warm, and your models won't be wearing much, make sure you have warm things for them to wear between shots. Bring an assistant of the same sex as the models, to reassure your models and just to have a helping hand for whatever comes up. Make sure it isn't going to rain, or be fully prepared for rain if it comes. And follow all the precautions you'd normally follow when venturing into a forest.|||you know what to do thats not your problem.

How often does a shooting star occur?

Just now my mum claims she saw a shooting star or a piece of debris from something unidentified, which means a meteor or asteroid impacted on Earth, but it was apparently only 1 shooting star and not a bunch of them so I have three questions.

How often do shooting stars occur and can only one appear?

Is the Earth constantly hit by small asteroids and meteors?

What else could give the impression of a shooting star or meteor shower?|||They occur thousands of time each night. Yes, the Earth is hit by them constantly.

A shooting star is only a small meteor about the size of a grain of sand. Approaching Earth from space, they hit the atmosphere at many miles per second and burn up giving a very bright flash in the process. They can be seen from many miles away.

.|||%26gt; How often do shooting stars occur and can only one appear?

Several times an hour in any one location. They can be single or several coming in on the same track.

%26gt; Is the Earth constantly hit by small asteroids and meteors?

Yes.

%26gt; What else could give the impression of a shooting star or meteor shower?

Usually meteors (or shooting stars in popular language) are natural objects, as opposed to "space debris" from artificial satellites.|||The Earth is constantly bombarded with debris. Hundreds if not thousands of meteorites burn entering the atmosphere every day. People just dont walk around looking up in the air to see them. This is a good time of year to view them. What does shooting blanks actually mean?

For a gun, if somebody is shooting blanks what exactly does that mean? Do they still shoot a bullet but it just isn't a real bullet? Or do they not shoot out anything but the gun makes the sound? I was just wondering.|||The gun doesn't shoot anything out. It's a cartridge without a bullet in it.|||A blank round has no bullet or projectile in the end of the cartridge case. Usually the end is crimped or folded over on the end to keep the powder in. It goes bang just like a regular bullet when fired but no bullet is involved. Never get in front of a weapon firing a blank as it is very dangerous.|||A blank round will discharge high pressure gasses and some particulate matter, but no slug or bullet.

Mostly what comes out is unburned powder, the paper wad, and bits of the brass casing and primer.

What are some of the best ways to practice shooting in basketball?

I'm the shooter for the team and the last 2 weeks i have not been scoring much lately what are some drills i should do to start shooting better?|||Plus 1 minus 2. Go to youtube and type in ray allen shooting fundamentals.|||what I do is sometimes self pass the ball from all points on the court. Start in the paint, and work your way out. Do a self pass, and shot. Shoot this way all over the court, never resting. From there you should be tired. Then do the same thing, self pass, ( with plenty of back spin), do a dribble, or a move, and shoot. Do this all over the court, until tired. From there practice free throws. They have a big ball, which is a lot larger than an average ball. Try to get one of those, and shoot with it every chance. This will make the basket look huge, and you should be able to hit the shot. Jordan had a way to get his team involved when his shot wasn't falling. So look for the open man and get them hot. That should help the flow of the game, also play harder on defense to make up for any misses. Usually a good defense leads to better offense.|||its very simple just go and shoot. shoot like 100 jumpers a day. practice all shots fadeaways, on the run, layups etc..

Is the Sony EX1 camcorder a good choice for shooting a low-budget horror movie?

I've just finished my script for a new low-budget horror movie and i'm in the market of shopping for a new camera. Obviously, there are lots of choices, but I need one that will handle fight scenes, a car chase scene, and night scenes (will probably use "day for night" instead of actual night shooting). Any info or advice from someone who knows or has used this type of equipment will be appreciated. Also am open to other suggestions on what camera might be better.|||the fisher-price PXL2000 gives a much better horror image.

How do I keep my elbow straight when shooting?

I'm aking this again, does anyone know a drill or ANYTHING that can help with keeping your shooting elbow straight when shooting. Because I have a tendency to poke my shooting elbow out to the side and I'm told that it's wrong. If anybody knows help please.

What does it mean when you see a double shooting star?

What is the omen of when you see two shooting stars side by side? Does it have a special meaning?|||No, no special meaning, they are common. You could have seen one star, and it's flare making it look like two. But to answer your question about an "omen" (superstitions) - in ancient times, (especially in Asia) seeing shooting (falling) stars were thought to predict calamities and bad luck, and means something bad will follow. But others say good fortune will happen, and if you make a wish, it will come true. (thus the saying "wish upon a falling star")|||It means that a meteorite broke into two pieces as it passed through Earth's atmosphere, and each piece continued to burn as they traveled in roughly equivilent trajectories.

"What is the omen of when you see two shooting stars side by side? Does it have a special meaning?"

There is no such thing as an "omen" in the sense you are referring. The only "special meaning" it has is that Earth has a thick atmosphere and that a meteor can break into two pieces when sufficiently heated by the friction generated by passing through a gaseous medium.|||All it means is that the original meteor had enough velocity that air resistance had enough force to fracture the meteor into two pieces.

I have no idea if this has a meaning astrologically. It would be better if you looked at an astrological web site for that. Most astronomers are quite insulted when astrological questions are posted in Astronomy %26amp; Space. I'm not insulted. Astrology is fascinating. How many of those insulted amateur astronomers have an open enough mind to do some research of their own and find out that astrology has been extended to include Ceres, several large asteroids, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto? Personally, every meteor I see is a message from God and my parents for me|||It means that either a larger chunk of rock broke with the atmosphere and it looks like two different stars or maybe there was just two different pieces hitting earth at the same time and ou have impeccable timing.

If your looking for an omen meaning, them you might be in the wrong category|||For things about omens and the occult you should post your question on the Horoscopes forum instead, which is under the Entertainment section.

The meaning of what you saw is that you happened to spot two meteors entering the atmosphere at the same time in the same place, that's all.

What happens in these kind of conditions while shooting a funny or a happy scene?

When like one actors mother or some other family member passes away and the other day he/she has to shoot a very funny or at least a happy scene. He/she can't change the date of shooting that scene,it's already scheduled.. What happes, does he/she shoot that scene or like they change the lines and put a sad scene to that day? How does it work?

Thanks|||They change the filming days. The dont make the actors show up if they just had a tragedy in there family. I hear a lot of stories of this happening on movie sets. It happened with johnny depp, his daughter got sick while he was filming a movie a couple of years ago, and they postponed the filming so he can be with his daughter|||They work through it.|||I'd think they just wouldn't show up for work. Like any other job. Personally, I wouldn't want to do a funny OR a sad scene if someone I knew had just died.

How do I rest my shooting arm after a day of practice?

It really frustrates me after 2 hours of practice a day, and the next day my shooting arm hurts, mainly in the elbow joints. Is there any stretches or ways to rest it faster? I really want to go out and shoot today.|||some push ups, and pull ups should do the job!|||I use this stretch all the time when playing bball and I don't have as much elbow pain.

I also use this one to stretch the wrist:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsvWW_tcc鈥?/a>

But I would recommend that you try very hard to avoid playing as much as you are. Limit yourself to less playing time at least for a week or more to rest your elbow.

If you still feel pain, it may help to stretch other parts of your body, like the shoulders.

What are the chances of a ricochet bullet hitting you in a shooting lane?

I was going to go shooting soon, but my mother heard of an incident where in one of the lanes a ricochet bullet killed a person. Also what age should you be to go shooting? I consider myself mature, and responsible although I will screw around at home when there is nothing important going on. Please also note any problems that can happen. Thank you!|||The odds of it happening are extremely slim. The back drops on shooting lanes are designed to prevent ricochets. On outdoor lanes, that usually consists of mounds of dirt. Bullets don't ricochet off of dirt. There is always the chance of some fluke occurance though.

I was experimenting with loads in a .36 caliber cap and ball revolver one day. I reduced the powder charge by a couple of grains every time I loaded to find the smallest load that would still shoot accurate grouns. My target was a paper plate tacked to the trunk of a dead tree about 50 feet away. When I cut the powder charge back to ten grains, the first shot out of the cylinder bounced off of the tree trunk and hit the bumber of my car about a foot from my right leg. I shot the remaining rounds into an anthill much farther away, and haven't experimented with reduced powder loads since.

I really don't think that the ball would have even penetrated if it had hit me, but judging from the sound of its impact on the steel bumper, it would have left a wicked bruise. It didn't even dent the bumper.

The age at which one should be allowed to shoot alone varies. I was allowed to shoot alone when I was about 10 or 11 using a .22. Most of the time I was careful, and I guess when I wasn't I was lucky. I know a 13 year old that I wouldn't allow to shoot a BB gun without supervision. Generally, I think if a kid can is permitted to handle an object as dangerous as a car, he/she should be trustworthy enough to be responsible with firearms.|||The odds of that happening are extremely slim, to almost non existent. Especially at a shooting range being that they design the range to stop ricochets and if a ricochet does occur, the range is designed to contain it.

With that said, target shooting, along with all sports involving firearms, has an inherent risk of danger. Provided that you use proper safety, the odds of injury are almost non-existent, but there is always the risk of it happening.

Just so you know, I started shooting (shotguns) around age 10.|||of the 10k+ I';ve shot at dozens of indoor, outdoor, public, private and open (desert/middle of nowhere) ranges, I've never had a bullet bounce back my way. Occasionally bullets bounce off stuff, but I take great care about the possibly about that before shooting so I never put myself or anyone else in danger. generally bullets that might bounce off something will rebound in the same angle it impacted the object at. Generally unless you really know what you're doing don't shoot hard target as all. including bricks, pavement, cinder blocks, metal targets (except those specifically designed/sold as targets), engine blocks, concrete walls. also avoid rubber tires of any kind. I actually did have an AP round glance off a old truck tire. not cool.

the ONLY ricochet that's ever come back my way is also the Only time I got shot by something (excluding paintball/airsoft). I got hit by a BB from my BB gun, I was shooting at a bottle 50 feet away and the BB bounced back and hit me on the eyelid. I never liked BB guns/air guns, and that made me REALLY dislike air guns. It turns out not only are airguns expensive, unreliable, weak, short ranged, nearly 90% of the projectiles bounce off stuff. including empty soda cans, books, and fruit.|||Unless you're downrange of the ricochet, I think you're ok. the bullet will tend to travel AWAY from you. True that some ricochet characteristics are funky(recall an instance of the bullets not coming off at the angle they impacted, but "hugging" the surface during travel..please correct if I'm wrong y'all, but I heard it in a CCW class by an NRA instructor), and I've qualified on M4 before as a mil member and watched M856 tracers skim up and over the backdrops at 45 degree angles, but I've never heard of a round coming back on a shooter provided the backdrop is of sound construction.

There is this vid:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ABGIJwiG鈥?/a> which is compelling, but look at the backdrop. Now I for one LOVE to shoot in the desert, but you take your safety into your own hands if you do. The lord/allah/buddah/yaweh/sheeba did not intend for creation to serve as a bullet catcher. Most of the time you're fine, but every once in awhile shizzle does happen! If you go to a reputable range though the backdrop has been designed to CATCH the rounds and not to ricochet them.|||The odds are almost non-existent, there isn't even a number to represent it. Statistically, shooting sports are among the safest, even safer than golf.

Shooting ranges are specifically designed to avoid ricochets and other dangerous occurrences and each shooter must follow strict rules to ensure the safety of everyone.

Kids of all ages go shooting, it's no big deal so long as they're under proper supervision.|||It has never happened in my years of shooting.

What is the best camcorder I could use for shooting high definition short movies?

How often can you go shooting without hearing protection before permanant hearing damage takes place?

I often go shooting for sport and self defense training. I know that it is valuable to occasionally shoot your firearm without hearing protection for real life training scenarios. But how often is too much? I do it about twice a year without hearing protection. Is even this infrequent exposure doing irreversible damage to my hearing or not?|||I guess it would depend on how long you are at the range.

Twice a year is not bad, it's the amount of time you spent there.

I used to work in a machine shop and always wore ear protection. we took hearing tests every year and some guys had a slight hearing loss after only a year.

For your protection, if you plan on being there, lets say for 3 hours, you might want to split your time in half.

1 1/2 hrs with protection, 1 1/2 without.

Hope this answers your question

How can I increase my shooting percentage in a game?

When I practice, I generally have a much higher accuracy shooting the ball than when I am in a game. For some reason, when I'm in a game, my shooting percentage dramatically decreases? Why is that and how can I correct this?|||It's mental.

Really, this is perfectly normal. It takes experience, i.e. playing time to get used to the stress of an actual game situation.

There's nothing at stake in practice.

I find it's shot selection. It takes a certain amount of discipline to pass on low percentage shots, or shots where you're not square with good mechanics.

Personally, I would focus on good mechanics, and stay with the fundamentals.

Bigsby gave you some good tips on simulating defenders, and distraction. Maybe those will work.|||You should try to shoot more. If that doesn't work try to be a more confident shooter. shoot closer to the basket.|||DON'T MISS!!!|||Make more baskets.|||take better shot selections and dont force layups or shots.

1. Play one on one with a teammate to simulate actual game scenario %26amp; execute your usual moves %26amp; shots

2. Still practice hundreds on shots a day (there's always room for improvement)

3. Continue to shoot no matter what, Shooting is both skill %26amp; a confidence thing

* Even an NBA player have games that he can't hit his usual shot %26amp; is struggling shooting the ball. But they are able to bounce back %26amp; show what they can do because they have 3 things: Proper mindset, skill %26amp; confidence.|||When you are practicing you are not being guarded that is why there is big disparity.

I am not sure if you've watched the movie "ABOVE THE RIM" when the guy practice his moves with and without the ball. I do the same thing, I practice my jab step, head fakes, fadeaways, hop step, and a mini jump hook when I practice. I do all the motions to ensure that I am simulating a real game. If you watch NBA players practice, they don't just shoot, they work on their footwork and then take the shot.

Here are some drills that might help you

1) Place chairs on the areas of the court that you like to shoot, dribble to those spots and try to simulate the game situation and take the shot

2) Have a friend carry a broomstick and hold it up while you are trying to move around it and shoot over it. That will simulate someone trying to block you. This will help your concentration.

3) Use some leg weights that you can buy in the sport store. This will simulate late game body conditioning and will increase your stamina

4) Use the glass when you are 6-10 feet away and while you are at an angle against the rim

What is the difference between shooting in B&W compared to colour and then transforming it to B&W?

Here's a question that I have wondered. Whats the difference in shooting in B%26amp;W compared to shooting in colour then making it B%26amp;W?

Say in a digital sense and in a film sense.|||It is the way the pixels capture the image and the interpolation used.

In digital, I always recommend shooting in color, RAW images, and later translate to B%26amp;W. This gives you total control on the way the B%26amp;W images look as you can emphasize a color and use the RGB layers as you would filters on a lens to create the exact effect you want.

In film, I would recommend shooting in B%26amp;W and use lens filters to create effect. You would have all the silver halides available to capture your image. Why? Because color film has three separate layers (sensitive to Red, Green, and Blue light). You would actually negate the color effect of some of the layers when using lens filters)|||Shooting in color requires different lighting, different background so the color contrast is more evident without overpowering the facial features.

Black and White has a more subdued lighting and personally, it is just as hard to take a b/w. Again, the lighting is so much more important.

As for digital, it does not have the warmth of a film no matter what anybody says.

P.S. You can always convert to b/w from color. Now, take that same pic in b/w and compare it. You will see a noticable difference.|||If you let the camera decide what to do, you are depending upon the algorithms designed by engineers ... not necessarily visually creative.

By shooting in colour, you are capturing RBG data (nearly three times the data when comparied to the "in camera black" and white files.

Using the saturation feature to desaturate the colour image, then using the levels tool, set the black threshold, white threshold and then adjust the mid-tones to the best looking black and white range.|||Can't really give you a good answer (already given here anyway)--but when I convert one from RAW in Adobe Lightroom, it gives me a few ways to adjust all sort of settings, like this:

What is the best type of hearing protection for shooting with a scoped rifle?

I just assembled a beautiful AR15 with a 24 inch barrel and a Magpul adjustable stock to be used for long distance recreational target shooting. However, I can't look through the scope with my earmuffs on.|||I agree with vangion. Get the rubber style plugs with the cords on them. If you ever visit a military rifle range, you will usually see the rang masters using these. They generally attach them to their campaign hats and push them in their ears when the firing is about to commence (the rest of the time, they strut around like big shots).

|||I build match AR's. And I am an audio engineer.

Your AR will crank out 137db of noise. Anything over 92db for four hours requires hearing protection. Each time the db level goes up by 3db it actually is a doubling of the noise. Example 93db is twice as loud as 90db. You will find the db rating on the package for the muffs and ear plugs.

The slim over the ear muffs are only good for 19 to 22 db. It's a help, but that extra noise that comes in will ruin your hearing over time. Once gone, hearing never, ever, comes back.

To shoot your AR you will want to use both inside the ear plugs and external muffs. You need to get that noise level down into the low 90's.

An alternate is buy a suppressor - like I did. Consider it an investment in your hearing - you do not want to have two hearing aids like I ended up with after a lifetime of shooting. My AR becomes totally quiet with subsonic ammo and is only 103db of ballistic crack with factory ammo. This means the really comfortable muffs work well.

Hope this helps |||There are several brands of ear muffs on the market. If none of these will work for you, you will need to go to ear plugs. Buy the plugs with the highest NRR rating. The good ones will have an NRR rating of 23 or higher. I have found that the foam plugs that you roll up and stick in your ear to work best for me and are the most comfortable to wear for long periods of time. The next best are the molded ones with 2 or 3 flanges to seal off your ear canal. These are quite good, too but some people do not find them to be as comfortable as the foam ones. You can also buy custom moulded ear plugs but I have tried them also and found that after a while they had become deformed from being stored in their little box and did not seal my ear canals as well as they did when brand new. They are expensive and not worth the money in my estimation. If you can getthehmoldedd plugs or foam plugs with a string running between them, I think they are best because you can remove them and let them hang on your neck and not loose them as you might if you removed the unattached plugs from your ears temporarily. Also the plugs on the string tend to remain clean longerbecausee they are no laid down on a dirty surface like non-attached plug are.|||I would use industrial ear plugs with high decibel protection. And make sure you properly install them in your ears. Lift up the tippy top of your ear as if your trying to make them pointy like an elf. This will open up and expose the ear canal. Then roll the ear plugs between your fingers and then insert. The ear plugs should puff back up and seal your ear canal.|||Rubber ear plugs like the military uses can be found for cheap at any store that sells guns

How does the length of a shotgun barrel affect shooting it?

How does the length of a shotgun barrel affect shooting it? For example about 20" for personal defense or 28" for hunting. What's the difference?|||at one time when we had only much slower burning powders a 26 to 28" barrel was needed to reach standard velocities. Going with a 20" barrel significantly reduced the velocity of the shot. This is also when you used to run across 30, 32, and even 36" 'goose barrels' as those extra long barrels were able to capture every last bit of energy in the gunpowder and use it to have the highest velocity shot.

Now with modern powders a wad of shot will reach 95% of full velocity at around 12" to 15" of barrel, and the gain from each additional inch of barrel is extremely small.

HOWEVER most wingshooters agree that the longer barrel swings more smoothly which allows for better accuracy vs small moving targets, so 26" barrels are the norm for hunting

Home defense, the 20" or 18" barrel is preferred because it is easier to manuever around a house with a shorter barrel. 16" or 14" would be even better but those are restricted by some outdated silly laws.

P.S. Contrary to what TV and movies would have you think a shortened barrel does NOT increase the spread of the shot, not until you get down to about 6" or 8" of barrel, but by then you are significantly reducing your shot velocity (and hence it's power) for a very small increase in spread. And honestly serious shotgunners do the opposite, they put special chokes in their barrel to keep the spread of the shot tight.|||The choke determines the pattern, not the barrel length.

The longer the barrel, the longer the sight radius, the easier it is to hit things a long ways away, such as geese. As a bonus, you may get a bit more velocity from more complete powder combustion. Noise will also be reduced.

A shorter barrel is easier to follow a fast moving target, close up with. It makes it more adept to environments with obstructions, such as walls, doors, dense underbrush, etc. It may suffer a bit in velocity, but does that really matter when you are welcoming an uninvited visitor with 1 1/2 oz of buck shot across the hallway?

Notice how the shot pattern has nothing to do with it? If you want a short shotgun for hunting deer in dense underbrush, you want a short barreled shotgun with a full choke. For home defense, you would be better served with a short barreled shotgun with a cylinder choke.|||Shotgun barrel length only effects it if it has no choke. Without a choke the barrel decides how spread out the shot will be cut to the time it stays in the barrel. So an 18" barrel will have a larger pattern at close ranges than a 26" barrel. However a 26" barrel will have the same pattern at say, 30 yards as that 18" at 5 yards.|||Nothing. But the longer barrel does give more velocity and better sight picture due to the extra length. It's not the barrel but the choke that affects spread. Your standard shorter 18-20 inch barrel is usually a cylinder bore; there is no choke so your spread is wider. On longer barrels they tend to either have type of choke designed into the barrel or can take detachable ones. Those affect shot spread.|||The condensed version of it is that a long barrel offers a longer sighting plane and a smoother swing than a shorter barrel. This makes it much easier to point, not aim, the shotgun to where you want your load of shot to meet the target.

Other than that, a long shotgun barrel offers little more than increased bulk.|||White, The longer the barrel, the longer the shot will stay together before it starts to spread out.

What are some remedies for cross dominance for shooting?

For example would it be feasible to shoot a rifle with the left hand and pistol with the right?

Or do you recommend shooting both left?

Or both right?

I am a beginner, so I kind of want to learn how to shoot the right way before I develop too many bad habits.

Thanks|||Don't worry about it.

You should shoot a handgun, shotgun and machinegun with both eyes open. Your dominate eye will take over. The reason you want both eyes open is that when you are in a combat situation you want to have a full field of vision. If you close one eye, you lose that side of you and you will not be able to see a threat coming from that side.

If you are shooting a scoped rifle you should use your dominate eye and close the other.

When I shoot right or left handed I use my dominate eye, all you have to do is bring the weapon over to your dominate eye side just a little bit.

A lot of instructors get stuck on the dominate/cross eye dominate theories, the truth of the matter is to just use what works best for you. If you can leave both eyes open, then do so. If you have to close one eye, then do so. If you shoot a rifle left handed and your handgun right handed, it doesn't really matter as long as you are making consistently good hits with your weapons. I have a personal friend that is a combat veteran, he was in Mogadishu when the Black Hawk Down incident happened. He fires a rifle right handed, but shoots a pistol, shotgun and machinegun left handed.

Bruce Lee said: "The only way is no way and no way is the only way." What he meant by that is that there is no one true style or one tactic or one technique that works for every occasion or for every person.

So, what are the remedies for cross eye dominance? Use what works best for you. Don't fight what your body wants to do. Work with your body and adapt to it.|||You can shoot however works best for YOU.

IF you are left eye dominant, it would probably be easier to learn to shoot both left-handed.

MOST center-fire rifles and some semi-auto handguns can be obtained for left-handed shooters. (A revolver doesn't matter as it does NOT eject the empty cases while firing.)

As another answerer stated, you can use a patch to train yourself to use the right eye for shooting.|||I am right handed and left eye dominant. When pistol/handgun shooting, i keep both eyes open and aim with my left eye. I find that the classic weaver stance is the most comfortable and accurate.

With rifles (scoped or not) and shotguns, I close my left eye. Quite frankly, this is not a big issue for targets or hunting. Dont try to shoot a rifle or shotgun left handed, you'll drive yourself crazy.

The more important things to focus on is proper grip technique, proper shooting stance, proper sighting, etc. To really learn to shoot well, find an NRA instructor (check gun shops for contacts) and other companies that offer CCW/CHL/CPL classes. DO that as soon as possible, before you develop bad habits!|||When I was eight and at Y camp learning to shoot, it turns out that I was left eye dominant and right handed. The counselors taught me to shoot long guns left handed. As I got older, I was able to close my left eye and shoot right handed so that is how I learned to shoot hand guns. To this day I shoot hand guns right handed and alternate on long guns.

Try putting a patch over the left eye. With just the one eye functioning, you can shoot right handed without interference. Or shoot left handed, but it is harder to find left handed long guns.|||My son is like that. I bought him an eye patch at Walgreen's to wear over his left eye so he can shoot right handed.
