What fraction of people start playing paintball and end up shooting someone?

I am an 11 year old boy and I want to buy a paintball gun.The only problem is that my mom says that you get practice and eventually get a real gun and shoot a person.I want to know if she is overprotective, or if she is right. Also, if anyone knows, how many people start playing paintball and end up shooting someone?

Any answer is helpful!Thank you.|||I think you mom is right and you should listen to her. If she doesn't want you to have a paintball gun so be it. She is the MOM!

I've never had paintball gun in my life.

I shoot .22 Ural, AK 47 full auto 7.62x39, SKS 7.62x39 semi auto, Smith %26amp; Wesson .38, .357, Glock .45, 40, 9mm, Beretta 9mm, and some other real guns. Bows and arrows, throw real knifes and axes to the targets.

I never shot a person. See the link? If I would ever not to listen to my mom and shot paintball gun I might of shoot a person!!!

Here is your lesson. It doesn't matter what gun you shoot, it is matter how strong is your brain to function without malfunction. Train your brain, and your arms, not just your arms.|||Sorry buddy, but people who use paintball guns are not the the bloodthirsty animals many people percieve us to be, i've been to paintball events for charity (childrens wish foundation) and most people you meet are just regular guys, who don't possess real firearm.

I started playing paintball when I was 8. It's nothing like real life, the recoil of a paintball gun is nothing. A recoil of a gun is alot.

Also, (most) paintball guns look NOTHING like real guns, unless you actually buy one that is meant to, such as a RAP4 T68 Mag-Feed.

I have never heard of a person shooting someone after being a paintballer. However, airsoft... thats a completely different case.

A boy recently went into a school in german with an airsoft rifle. He killed 8 people and then himself. He had never played paintball. The German Government tried to ban paintball, but they've put it on hold, for the paintball side of things anyway.

Anyway, when you go paintballing at a real field, you will normally get a safety talk if its a Punter day.

P.S: If you want to go and shoot someone because you've shot a paintball gun, don't. Paintball is really good now, everyone has mass respect for eachother.|||Merely having and using guns or similar devices does not determine what a person will do when they grow older. As for shooting someone, there are many factors that go into that such as, how you were raised, your school life, home life, if you bully or are bullied, if your family has a history of psychological conditions just to name a few. So does using a paintball gun mean you will grow up to shoot someone with a real gun? Absolutely not.|||I believe your mom is being overprotective. I'm into paintball. I have been for oh... 3 years now. I own two paintball MARKERS. It is best to call them markers instead of "guns". That gives parents the wrong idea. I also believe that paintball and murder/assualt with a firearm are not relevant to eachother in any way.

So here's my example: I've been playing paintball for 3 years and own 2 markers. I have *never* wanted to pick up a firearm and shoot another person. Never.

So it's totally a personal choice, whether you go down that road and decide to shoot someone. I don't believe owning a paintball marker has anything to do with it. It's a personal choice. I hope you don't end up shooting someone. And it doesnt sound like you want to.

Good luck with convincing your mom, hope it goes well. I'd love to see more young players.

HTH|||Your mom is actually the exact opposite of right. Paintball doesn't promote shooting people, and actually paintball would prevent most people from shooting someone for real. If someone plays paintball, they have a really good way to let out their anger in a completely controlled environment, instead of doing something stupid off the field.

Good Luck!

Also- if you get one- get a smart parts vibe (amazing starter gun) http://www.ansgear.com/Smart_Parts_Vibe_Mask_47_3000_Force_4_1_Remote_p/zspvibekit5.htm|||likelyhood of becoming a criminal is MUCH more related to such behaviors as 'doing drugs' 'dropping out of school' and 'having no father figure'

In fact, it has been shown that kids whose parents LEGALLY take them hunting and target shooting are much less likely to get in trouble with the law than kids in general. In fact kids that are allowed to hunt are less likely to get into trouble with the law than 'Honor Students' are.

I don't know of any studies about paintball, but I suspect the same rules would apply.|||Nope. She's bought fully into the liberal fear mongering when it comes to guns. It can be easily removed from any normal person but if she is a liberal it will be very difficult.

A stance such as hers is not based upon facts but an illogical conclusion due to misinformation or an emotional marker. Her issue is one common one with the gun subject. She is projecting. She is projecting what she MIGHT do if she herself had a gun but since she never has if becomes more realistic in her mind.

Here are two blog posts I feel explain it better than myself:

http://blog.joehuffman.org/2009/08/22/Pr鈥?/a>|||smartin up u have been watching the news too much oya btw dont Liston to the media they are 1 sided and you want practice the more practice you have the more gun safety you know and the safer you will be and no if you start playing paintball you will not shoot someone not trying to get spamed but take a look at my question "what do you think of kids and guns" i think that will answer your question|||your mom must have something up her but. i have been playing paintball for many years and even travel across the country to play and i have never oncer shot someone with a reall gun. your mom listens to the media witch is ment to scare people so they dont do anything but follow the law. playing paintball wont make you shoot someone in reallife|||As a longtime Paintballer, Capt of a Paintball team, and a Police Officer, I can say there are very very few incidents regarding Paintballers who kill.

May I direct you to this series of FAQs, the first three you should show her. And you as a potential player should read the rest.

This website has some really good information for parents:

http://www.college-paintball.com/high/ge鈥?/a>|||very un likely only if they are sycotick and stupid i play air soft gun wars and now one gets permanently hurt you don't need practice only thing you need is you have to be able to point a gun shoot at them and be prapard to get shot, it hurts! but its fun and awesome to shoot othpeopleple.

hope this helps|||im thirteen and i play paintball.ive seen 7 year olds play paintball.shes not being overprotective she doesnt want to spend the money thats y.and i wanted to see wat it felt like to get shot and my mom shot me and shes never shot anything before so u do have a great chance on hitting someone.but make sure u dont get hit first.|||Your mom has a point. Its called conditioning. You will need a total different mind set if holding a real gun. Never point a real gun at someone unless you are defending your life or some Else's and are fully aware of the consequences of killing someone..........no do overs.......|||Can you control you anger and impulses? If so, you're not gonna go shooting up a place just because you play paintball. If you are impulsive and can't control you emotions don't even touch a paintball gun much less a firearm.|||well, i know of major studies back in the 90's showed that paintbalers are very nonviolent and very social. when i play, i think of winning and not harming others|||.003% of people end up shooting people

when 6.3% of people end up shooting someone after playing basket ball

and 4.05% of people end up shooting someone after playing football|||Most people that shoot people and the people that get shot are scumbags. If you are not a scumbag your chances of being murdered or murdering someone go down to insignificant numbers.|||That is a new one on me.

Honestly though, 11yrs seems a little young in my opinion. Those paint balls hurt like hell.|||The fraction of which is mentally disturbed.|||way under .1% paintball builds character|||The answer you want: none

The answer you need: sorry bud, listen to your mother.|||No, your mom is wrong. Very wrong.|||I did. But I'm the only one I know who did.|||i dont know about shooting but i have seen ppl be aggresive after that sport.|||Your Mom has a basic fear that many parents also share. They believe that paintball and actual guns are very close in relationships, but they actually are not. Almost everyone who plays paintball does not ever want to be in the situation to hurt/shoot/or kill somebody with a real gun. If anything paintball would lessen the chances of you actually wanting to pick up a real gun and use it. When playing paintball you learn a lot about off-field safety and that your marker should not be used as a weapon. Here are some statistics:

An army recruiter was sent to a Scenario game (a big paintball game that has missions and objectives that is more "army" and "real" than speedball). Out of about 700 people he had only 10 people that signed to the mailing list and only 2 people that actually signed up for the army.

Paintball is now bigger than Snowboarding, with 15 MILLION players worldwide and is played in 110 different countries.

And I have NEVER heard of anyone who has actually shot someone also play paintball. If someone who actually shot someone played paintball then it would definatley be in the news showing the connection between the sport and bad influences.

So what your mom is saying is that 15 million people in 110 countries are going to pick up a real gun and shoot someone. Why in the world would ANYONE do that. Thats like saying if you play laser tag every weekend then your going to get a real gun and shoot someone. Just because a paintball or "bullet" comes out of a paintball gun and hits someone does not mean you have the intention of killing someone, your only intention is getting somebody out. Shooting a paintball gun is NOTHING like shooting a real gun at all. Real guns dont have an on button, and do not have an air tank in the back and a hopper that holds ammo on top.
