When do you put backspin in the ball when shooting a basketball?

For 3 point shots and just normal jump shots, do you always put backspin on your ball, or no?

Do professionals such as Kobe put backspin whenever they shoot?

Also, when you shooting 3's do you place your palm under the b-ball with the hand you release with or do you use your finger tips? And what about normal jump shots?|||I wouldn't call it "backspin", but I guess it technically is. It's more commonly called rotation, and rotation is critical to a good jumper. The rotation is imposed by the release of the ball. You should flick your wrist, and follow through so that your extended arm looks like a sawn's neck (arm up fingers pointing toward the ground).
