What is a good air rifle to start shooting with?

Hey, I'm interested in getting into shooting with an air rifle (You know, the pellet kind) and trying to find a good air rifle to begin with. Wondering if anyone could tell me from experience what a good starting rifle is. I've seen a 760SK Air Rifle but need some advice on it. Not looking for something too expensive either.|||The Daisy 880S is $35-40 at Wal-Mart. Much better than the $30 Crosman 760, which doesn't have a rifled barrel, so it isn't as accurate.

The Daisy come with a useless 4x15mm scope, but it is basically "free".

If you can spend $70, Wal Mart has this for $70 and it is worth the price!

They have this for $45... not rifled, not worth it.

Get the $30 http://www.crosman.com/site/listing/1073

and the $14 BSA scope...

or the $23 BSA scope...

At least these scopes are one step above the "freebie" 4x15's included with so many cheap air rifles.

Finally, if this doesn't break the bank...

Here's some discounts for Pyramid Air:

They all retail for less than $70 American and deliver good quality, accuracy, and power levels at a modest price. Avoid the Daisy 880, as its cheaply made. (My experience is the breech-bolt tends to blow back/open sometimes during firing, especially if you don't close it just so.) However if you want a hunting air-rifle, look at the 1000fps .177 caliber or 800+ fps .22 caliber pre-charged pneumatics and spring piston rifles.|||%26gt;%26gt;I have seen the 760SK(starter kit) air rifle%26lt;%26lt;

Unless you want everything that comes with the starter kit, I would save the $$ and just buy the Crosman 760. You can pick up the 760 for around $36 at Walmart.

IMO, The Crosman 2100(AKA the Remingtin AirMaster 77) is a much nicer rifle and you can get one for around $59 at Walmart.

IMO, the Daisy 880S($46) is a slightly better rifle than the Crosman 760, but not as nice as the 2100.

If you would rather have an inexpensive spring piston air rifle over a multi-pump pneumatic(BB/Pellet) rifle. You can buy the Tech Force 34(TF34) .177 for $56.90 at Airgun Depot

%26gt;There is a typo in the specs for this rifle "540fps" - It should read 840fps

It does not sound like you're interested in spending that kind of money($140) on an air rifle, but, I did want to back up what "Benjamin L" said about the Benjamin 392 / 397 air rifles. They are great little rifles.|||The 760SK is a very good first BB/Pellet rifle to get. It's accurate and fun to shoot.

One word of caution....follow the instructions included with it and don't pump it more than 10 times or you risk damaging the piston and seals inside of the rifle.

It comes with a tip-off scope mounting rail as part of the receiver making the mounting of a airgun scope or electronic sight easy.

That particular model is what I bought my 2 boys as their first air rifle several years ago and they still own them and have fun with them on a regular basis.

Have fun -|||the 760 is good, got one i use to teach friend %26amp; family the basics on it! very accurate and very inexpencieve! kind of cheap, put well worth the money for a starter gun! if you want something that will last a life time get a benjamin 392 or 397, they are @ $140 ,and youll be teaching your children and grand children on it some day! |||I went to my local sporting goods shop and got a nice air rifle for $100 with scope. its a crossman and I have friends with crossmans so I would choose one of those|||I just got a phantom crosman and I think it works great! It doesn't have any extra crap. Just a really good pellet gun!|||Buy cheap buy twice kid.

Buy from Air arms, Daystate or Theoben.
